5G technology is to be the next evolution of mobile network. Complaining about the lack of 4G in an area is to be a thing of the past! Everyone is getting very excited about the new 5G network! Let’s find out why!
5G technology is the next generation of mobile networks, it’s just like 3G and 4G. However, it’s expected to be better and much more powerful than what we’re used to.
By using higher frequencies than previous networks, 5G is able to offer extra speed and higher bandwidth.
If all goes well, 5G could potentially mean the end for Wi-Fi. Most notably in public places, as the network will be strong enough to allow all the internet browsing you could possibly want. Moreover, because the network will have a bigger capacity than 4G, it means that thousands of devices in a small area can be connected at the same time.
At this present time, there isn’t a single 5G-ready smartphone on the market. Many phone manufacturers have already announced that they are hoping to bring out 5G-ready devices in 2019.
However, having 5G-ready devices isn’t much good without it having a network to connect to. Fortunately, many major mobile manufacturers are already trialling 5G networks powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X50 50 Modem.
Taking all this into account, it will be a while until 5G is available for us in the UK, the rollout beginning in 2020. Whilst other countries, such as Japan and South Korea could launch their next generation networks by the end of this year.
